| I live in
Mudgeeraba in Queensland, Australia. I am very proud to be a member of your club,
and as uncle of Ryan & Kim Sutton, I have been to one of your meetings held
in the back room of a cafe in Vancouver a couple of years ago when my wife
Yvonne and I were visiting. I was impressed by the laid-back attitude of
all present and the friendliness showed to me. Naturally I was interested in
Ed Bulpit's ex NSW police Cooper S still in RHD.
I now have a 1968 Cooper S 1275cc, which I discovered on Sydney's North
Shore late in 2002. The interior had been completely re-trimmed about 10
years previously, engine been overhauled 5 years ago then after very little
use, the car was left in their driveway with just a tarp over it. Naturally,
the salt air got to it and severe (?) rust (not as severe as N American rust
thank goodness) took hold at both ends. The interior while mildewed was
still 100% and came good with a clean.
Engine was OK too so just needed repair to front bonnet and grille
surround area and new rear beaver panel, stainless bumpers and overriders,
new grille surround and repairs around rear window and to rear floor.
Along with a repaint, this took 6 months and has now been on the road 10
months, the only extra problem has been the water pump needed replacing -
with the high-volume type.
It is very original, runs beautifully and is a joy to drive, I have it as
my daily driver which adds excitement on a daily basis.
"Coopernook?" That's a small town about 30 minutes drive south of Port
Macquarie, I couldn't resist taking a photo. Its great to check out the website and get the magazine every month, I'm
editor of our local Heritage Car Club's newsletter so I know the work that
goes into their production and the standard is excellent (enough greasing
up!)
Keep up the good work and "Hi" to all the other members, see you when I'm
over there next time. If anyone is ever in
Mudgeeraba look me up, we'll
have a cup of coffee and a good chinwag. |
