Rick & Elaine’s Mini is a 1980-registered car that their oldest son, Tyler, bought from its original owner in 1995 with Rick’s promise to take the car off his hands when the time came. The time was June 26th, 1999 with the 40th anniversary East Meets West Mini Meet only 5 weeks off, in Colorado Springs. Elaine gave "Pooh" its name soon after Tyler bought the Mini. And, in a bid to encourage Rick, she read ‘The Expotition to the North Pole’ from A. A. Milne’s collected works, while he slaved on the car in the driveway in the failed dash to ready it for the 40th anniversary meet. Rick and Elaine find the "best of Minis" to be their owners, relatives and friends. Meet attendance has provided annual adventures since Jeremy's Mini headed to Portland in 1993 with less than 500 miles on the odometer. For their Millennium Project Rick and Elaine drove "Pooh" to MME 2000 in Magog, southeast of Montreal, on to Quebec City, then home across the United States. The trip to Quebec was Elaine's idea, after hearing about MME in Colorado, and she drove alternate legs on what turned out to be a 12,519 kilometre trip. See Pooh's Expotition Since Quebec, Pooh has gone to MMW 2001 in Florence, Oregon and to MMW 2002 in Orange County, California. See Pooh's Adventure for the California trip in August 2002. After MMW 2003 in Victoria ‘Pooh’ was taken off the road for a complete strip down and rebuild. The newly renovated Pooh has a second big adventure traveling to Mini Meet West in Prescott, Arizona and Mini Meet East in Frederick, Maryland in July 2006. Since, Pooh has gone to the 2006 ABFM in Portland, MMW 2007 in Hood River, Oregon, MMW 2008 in Irvine, California, MMEMW 2009 in Winona, Minnesota and MMW 2010 in Penticton. The Australian Mini Clubman Window Van was built in April 1973 with 1098 on 4 synchro box with “pudding stirrer” shifter. Low mileage, very good condition and will be our ride for the ‘One Lap’ of Australia adventure. The Window Van was only built in Australia. |
