On the road with Pooh...

Pooh's Millennium 'Expotition'

Pooh has received a full servicing of wheel bearings, CV joints, brakes and so on, and the parts bin was loaded with spares. Rick & Elaine will have a comprehensive list of spares from bearings and CV's to driveshafts, head gaskets, fan belts, thermostat gaskets, cooling hoses, water pump, ignition bits, oil pressure line, oil filters, etc. and only those tools needed to do the repairs. They all fit into a latched container that rides in the boot. This leaves space for the spare tire and coolant, oil, cleaning & polishing kit... and laundry.

The hardest work for Pooh's little engine will come early with the climb over the Coquihalla Hwy. On Day 1, followed by the Rogers Pass and the Rockies on Day 2. Therefore, an evening run to Kamloops will test the setup, before the first full day enroute to Alberta.

The plan is to travel some 10 hours a day, including stops, limiting distances to less than 800 kms./500mi./day. An 80 km/h average speed is believed achievable. Oil and filter changes are scheduled for Winnipeg, Orford, and Chicago. By the time Pooh returns to the Rockies and home, a clear picture of what can be expected from a modestly, modified 998cc engine will have emerged.
