Day 1 started with the Concours with about 70 cars showing there stuff. The weather was perfect and some people have sunburns to prove it. The biggest classes were the original/restored and the modified classes. There were very few long wheel based cars, a good showing of mokes and one beautiful pick-up with canopy, there was also one cabriolet making a showing. Judging was very close and difficult with the winner in the O/R class having almost a perfect score at 99%. Sorry, no names or cars, can't remember everything you know. The group photo came next, it was very well organized and executed as the mini's were group in 3 large semi circles so that the panoramic camera could pan around them for a picture which will be about 1 foot by 3 feet long. some humour to note was that as the camera pans from left to right, some people on the left ran to the other end of the string of minis as soon as the camera passed by them so that they would be in both ends of the picure.

The Funkana came next. This event is a cross between a rally and an autocross where you need a driver and a navigator to maneuver a mini through a course of pylons, or in this case, stuffed animals and perform stunts (?), best time wins. This event usually proves to be very difficult as the first stunt was to drive up to a large wooden puzzle of a mini and both driver and navigator have to put it together, alot harder than it looks, especially when under pressure, the next station, the driver or navigator have to get out of the mini and pan for gold, a large bucket full of water and sand and BB's using a pan to find at least one BB. Back into the mini, the driver is now wearing a blindfold and the navigator must direct him to the end of the course, the mini at this point is facing down hill, a U-turn must be made and then maneuver through a short slalom up hill across a very narrow finish line with out wiping out the timing equipment like some people did, eh Jack. The times started out in the 4 to 5 minue mark, with the winner Ken F. (as usual) from Vancouver and Rob V. From the Bay area with a time of 1min. 32secs. Back at the hotel they held the RC car races which were a scream to watch.
